Team Limelight complete a Grim weekend…

As Team Limelight (Diccon, Sarah, Giles, Ben, Nicole and Ali) headed out of London and on their way to Aldershot at 8.30am (7.40 for Giles) on Sunday morning, there was silence from all as the rain lashed down so heavily that the M4 was at a standstill as the road markings were out of sight……this was not the weather the six of them had hoped for to run an 8-mile extreme x-country…..

Thankfully, two hours later having arrived at the army base the sun was out and we were at the start line ready to go…….well five of us were….Diccon was right at the front ready to put in a record speed time.

The first five miles of the eight mile course consisted of a lot of water, mud, bogs, rough terrain, cargo nets to crawl under and a bit more water and mud. Large puddles that came up to the thigh made for entertaining moments as everyone tried to keep up speed through them and avoid a sneaky push from certain team mates with Sarah taking the first fall of the day and submerging herself up to her shoulders…..

The course was then kind for two miles where everyone was able to settle into their stride until the last cruel mile which included steep up and down hills, more water and a soul destroying route past the finish line only to find out there was another ½ a mile to go…..

Special applause must go to Ali and Giles who have never ran more than 5k and completed the course with a smile on their faces (perhaps that was just relief!) and Nicole for being Miss Motivator to Ali the whole way round.

When the end came it was Mars Bars, flasks of tea and hot chocolate with whisky that eventually stopped the shivering! Times were good with Diccon completing the course in a very, very speedy 1.06.50, Spooner in 1.27.04, Sarah in 1.29.09, Giles in 1.31.55 and Nicole and Ali in 1.32.35.

Muddy Marvellous (girls team) finished 7th out of 20 women’s teams.
