Dedicated members of Limelight’s running club, Tisiana, Limelight’s Financial Controller, Kara, Head of Internal Ops and Ellie, Office Manager, got a special treat on Saturday. They were lucky enough to get the chance to run in the Grazia Nike+ Human Race 10k with 1,500 other women and experience a Limelight Sports event from the participant’s point of view.

The race was held in Victoria Park in Hackney, a park well known to East London-ite, Kara but less so by South London dwellers Tisiana and Ellie. But the journey was well rewarded as, although the weather was slightly damp, the atmosphere wasn't and the park was in its full autumnal glory.

Setting off in the first wave Kara and Tis optimistically slotted into the under 50 funnel, choosing to ignore the jibes from colleague James as to it actually being their age range, and taking inspiration instead from Paula Radcliffe who started the race.

After a short but nervous wait with lots of excited ladies, 10:37 struck and they were off. The slightly earlier start meant calculating pace was a little more difficult than usual and the first 3 kilometres were knocked off in 15 minutes! After taking things down a gear, the girls settled into what is a fairly well known/trodden distance for all three. Tis led the way for the first 5ks. However, revved up after seeing a band of enthusiastic and vocal colleagues at the halfway point Kara was suddenly energised and took it up a notch to take a small lead on Tis.

All three dug deep and completed the race in sub 60 with PBs chalked up for Tis and Kara (53:48 and 53:27 respectively) and a respectable time of 59:27 racked up for Ellie.
