After months of training and having bored the entire office, friends and family to death, with talk of tactics, times and where to buy instant porridge, the big day finally came for Tisiana, Mary H, Ellie, Nicole and Kara.

The Limelight ladies pounded the streets of Bristol yesterday in the city’s pleasant, if somewhat surprisingly hilly, half marathon.

Nicole, who had bounded ahead of the girls in the training runs, boinging up Primrose Hill like a puppy off the leash, styled it out in her first ever half and was the first of the Limelight team to cross the line, registering an impressive time of 1:50:43.

Kara and Tis battled it out for second place with Kara spending the entire race on Tis’s heels waiting for signs of burn out and the chance to overtake. But in the end the determined Canadian just would not tire and crossed the line 30 seconds ahead of Kara, both clocked times of 1:55 or thereabouts and secured new PBs.

Ellie and Mary, like Nicole were also debutante halvers and despite respective illness in the lead up and travel traumas the night before, both powered on round and set benchmark times of 2:16:41 and 2:18:33.

The Limelight girls were joined by Sue C, chief cheerleader, who drove across the border to support the team and also sorted the post-race hospitality superbly. All in all a lovely day, and five tired girls trained it back to London feeling very pleased with themselves, if not a tad stiff!
