Inaugural Limelight Australia 5k dash
24 July 2009

A fine winters evening greeted the first annual Limelight Australia staff 5k dash.
Despite concerns over weather conditions, race organisers were pleased with the full turnout to the Albert Park course, famously know as the F1 Grand Prix venue, and now also the equally esteemed LSA 5k.
All (4) participants were resplendant in their various sponsored apparel, particuarly Matt Giles in his standard issue HI VIS safety t-shirt. The shirt provided a beacon in the fading light as Giles led the field going out in the first wave under the Duckworth Lewis Handicap system.
The beach short clad German surfie Martin Stritzker followed in hot pursuit, dodging all puddles on a water logged course. Some confusion over the handicap system saw New Zealander Andy O'Loughlin next to leave (possibly before he should have), having a 1 minute start on World Triathlon Championship representative Jezza Francis.
Strong winds made valiant efforts for fast times difficult, but the big hearted athletes stormed around the course in superb fashion cheered on by a modest crowd.
Despite timing system issues final results were released with O'Loughlin recording 19.23 for the (almost) 5km, Francis 19.36, Stritzie in 20.53 and fast finishing Giles breaking the 30 minutes barrier easily in 29.53.
The full field has now retired to the corporate hospitality facilities for a well deserved knees up.
