Last Sunday morning in Cardiff Sue Courtney joined 7,300 other women to take part in her first Race for Life event in aid of Cancer Research UK. Bute Park in the centre of Cardiff was a fitting location for the sea of pink that is a Race for Life event! With a clear sky and blazing sunshine (23 degrees officially), Sue was cheered on by her husband and his family and determined to beat her previous 5K time of 29:20. After taking advice from her running mentor (Mary Roberts!) she made sure she got close to the front of the queue and got a speedy start to break ahead of the masses. With the first kilometre completed in 5 minutes, the pace slowed down a bit over 2, 3 and 4, but ensured enough energy reserves for a sprint finish on the home straight, crossing the line in a time of 27:22…… Sue's sights are now firmly set on doubling the distance with a 10k race in the near future.
