On a sunny and unseasonably warm day in Berkshire earlier this month, Steve Dews, Limelight's IT manager, continued his preparation for the upcoming Berlin Marathon by completing a half marathon around the palm-lined streets of Bracknell. Joining him at the start line was long time friend of Limelight, John Waites, who was taking part to provide Steve with some moral support, as well as testing the waters for another full marathon attempt in the next 12 months.

Despite the gradual incline from Miles 6-9, both athletes (yes, athletes!) achieved their pre-race targets – Steve to duck under the 1 hour 50 minute mark again (which he achieved in running 1:49:44) and John to beat his previous best from 2003 (which he managed in 1:44:11). Although both put their performances down to a regime of hard training, pre-race abstinence and early nights, sources claim that the main reason for the achievement of pre-race targets was the appearance at the side of the road of Simone Dews at the 5 Mile and 9 Mile marks with some much-needed energy-boosting refreshments…
